Eid Celebration

Image
The Muslim festival of Eid-el-Kabir also known as Sallah is here once again. Expectedly, Nigerian Muslim faithful will join their counterparts, the world over to mark the event with prayers and merriment. The most interesting part of the celebration, is the Sallah meat and rice and it is no coicedence that this year’s celebration is coming at a time when the economy is still experiencing... The holiday for me is known as 'Meat Eid' for its variety of meat. While going for the meat,  it is important for a non- Muslim friend to note that, there are certain protocols to observe when visiting a Muslim home. B...

Book Review - Chike and The River

Image
Who remembers this book of magical tale of boundaries, bravery, and growth, by Chinua Achebe, one of the world’s most beloved and admired storytellers. Chinua Achebe's ‘Chike and the River’ reads with the directness of a folk tale, even though it's set in the modern world. It was originally published in South Africa by Cambridge University Press in 1966 eight years after the author's landmark novel ‘Things Fall Apart,’it is the first of his four children's books, the story of a boy named Chike who yearns to cross the Niger River, for no other reason than to see what's on the other side.
