Eid Celebration

The Muslim festival of Eid-el-Kabir also known as Sallah is here once again. Expectedly, Nigerian Muslim faithful will join their counterparts, the world over to mark the event with prayers and merriment.
The most interesting part of the celebration, is the Sallah meat and rice and it is no coicedence that this year’s celebration is coming at a time when the economy is still experiencing...

Eid traditionally start with prayers followed by a short sermon. In some countries the prayers take place outside, while others are hosted in mosques or large halls. After the prayers, Muslims wish those around them a happy Eid. People then visit relatives and friends

Many people wear traditional clothes, give gifts or money to children, and donate to charity.
The holiday for me is known as 'Meat Eid' for its variety of meat.

While going for the meat,  it is important for a non- Muslim friend to note that, there are certain protocols to observe when visiting a Muslim home.
Be cautious of your dressing

Most Muslims remove their shoes before entering the home. They will usually have a special place reserved just outside the door or in the entry way for shoes. This is both religious and cultural. Cleanliness is very important in Islam. Muslims are not to pray in a dirty area and the bottoms of shoes are considered unclean. As a matter of courtesy, you should remove your shoes if everyone else does.

Be aware of gender. Conversation should either be between a group of women, a group of men, or the entire group together. Private conversations between an unmarried man and woman are frowned upon. When speaking to a member of the opposite sex, conversation should be relatively serious and businesslike. Overly playful speech could be misinterpreted.

Be sure to go on an empty stomach, because hosts will do their utmost to feed you well and full.

Make it a point to wash your hands before joining in at the table, even if your host has laid out a set of fork and spoon for you. And always use your right hand to receive or pass food as the left hand is considered unclean.

Make sure you pray before you eat. Muslims will typically say “bismillah” before they eat.

Have fun!!!
